2009 Meeting Schedule

Date Description
Jan. 7 Open meeting. Bring your pressing questions, answers, attention, leftover holiday cookies, and anything else you have to share.
Feb. 2 Alex Edward of SF's Myofascial Treatment Associates (Ron Leonardi's outfit) will present his innovative approach to RSI, combining bodywork with cognitive treatment.
March 2 John A. Baron, of Sausalito, and students, in a hands-on demonstration of the Alexander Technique: "How to regain the use of your whole self and to correct habits of 'mis-use.'"
April 6 Dr. Jeffrey R. Ralph will be talking on pain management. He is a neurologist who specializes in diseases of the nerve, muscle and neuromuscular transmission, and the director of the Neuropathy Center at the UCSF Medical Center.
May 4 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Update: What do the changes in the federal law mean for Californians? A summary of federal and state (FEHA) disability anti-discrimination laws. Disability rights lawyers, including Betsy Johnsen.
June 1 Bringing It All Together: Please bring one or two comments on what has worked best for you to incrementally improve - or cure - your condition. Nutrition, treatment modality, ergonomics, whatever tips you feel strongest about! Also: bring any unused equipment to share - spare wrist guards, gloves, equipment, etc. Moderated with note-taking - notes will be available.

July 6 Peter Edgelow, PT, MA, assistant clinical professor of physical therapy, UCSF, will discuss thoracic outlet syndrome's role in causing RSI, and how to overcome it.
Aug. 3 Demonstration of how Dragon Naturally Speaking can be used for dictation and for issuing commands and navigation, hosted by Steve Kessler from our group.
Sept. 14  Mordecai Ettinger, a somatic practitioner and Reiki practitioner whose practice focuses on trauma resolution, on understanding root causes of chronic pain.
Oct. 5 Stephen Tamaribuchi, RSI consultant, inventor, and Shiatsu expert, with twenty years experience in the field of human biomechanics, will teach you how to drive/move/live to prevent pain in your body. A few of his hints can make a big difference in your life.
Nov. 2 Pam Silverman, expert physical therapist, of Hand Therapy of San Francisco, on what we have learned about treating RSI in the last 25 years.
Dec. 7 Discussion on Pain: How do you deal with chronic or acute pain? Share your ideas about what pain is and what can be done about it — drugs, massage, relaxation, meditation, etc.

Feb. 4 Nancy Byl, PhD, PT, FAPTA, on Focal Dystonia in the Hands (following up her popular presentation on focal dystonia in general this past November).
March 3 Nancy McCombs, Social Security Disability Attorney
will discuss eligibility, the application process, and how it relates to RSI.
April 7 Carolyn Parker, Naturopath and Kinesiology Practitioner, on nutrition, diet, and supplementation for pain and RSI.
May 5 The Taoist Tai Chi Society of the USA, S.F. Bay Area Branch
Health benefits and other benefits of tai chi for people with RSI.
June 2 Nancy Petty, hand therapist, and Jay Petty, fitness trainer and aikido practitioner, will discuss the body/mind/spirit connection with the treatment of upper quadrant dysfunction.

Nov. 3 Megan Caper and Katherine Romano, Certified BodyTalk Practitioners, on how BodyTalk re-synchronizes the body's energy systems, enabling optimal functioning and rapid healing.
Dec. 1 Mind-Body Forum: Alexis Grant, Nate McNamara, and Steve Simons, who report recovering fully from RSI without doctors or exercises, talk in detail about how to treat RSI using Dr. John Sarno's theories.
